Mardi Gras on The Strand

Each year, more than half a million people gather
in the streets of Galveston Island to participate
in the largest Mardi Gras celebration in Texas.
For 12 days and 11 nights the island is electrified
by the sounds of live music, spectacular parades,
elaborate masked balls, and flamboyant costumes.

The AIA Sandcastle Competition

2,500+ of Houston's most creative and competitive architects and
designers will pack up their buckets and shovels to participate in the
annual AIA Sandcastle Competition. Using wit, imagination and their
finest sand-sculpting techniques, they'll dazzle us with their creations.
This great summer event is one of the
largest sand sculpting competitions in the country. 80+ teams
construct extravagant sand sculptures and castles. Ninteen awards are given
for: best of show, public favorite, most hilarious, most
patriotic, best team sign, best team costume, most lifelike and best traditional

Dickens on The Strand

Be it decreed that all lords, ladies and children shall come and
celebrate the Annual Dickens on The Strand, a holiday festival,
where bobbies, Beefeaters and the Queen herself will be on hand to
recreate the Victorian London of Charles Dickens. Characters from
Dickens novels walk the street. Food and entertainment fill the
area with sights and smells that take you back to another era.

Oleander Festival

The Oleander Festival will have an Oleander display
of more than 60 named varieties; Society members
and gardening experts will be on hand to answer all
your questions. There will also be free gardening
lectures, a narrated tour of Moody Gardens’ Butterfly
& Hummingbird Gardens and Natural Habitat, a Floral
Design Competition, a sale of many hard-to-find
Galveston oleander and dwarf varieties.

Beach Party Weekend
Annual celebration attracts tens of thousands of young people and vehicles,
cruising up and down Galveston island, Broadway and Seawall Boulevard.
Not considered a family-friendly event.
